LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
We are grateful to come together on land that has been cared
for and respected by Indigenous Peoples for generations.
Today, we gather in Tkaronto, the traditional territory covered
by Treaty 13 and the Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt
Covenant — an agreement to share and protect the land and its
resources in peace and friendship.
This area has been home to many Nations, including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Haudenosaunee, the Huron-Wendat,
the Chippewa, and the Anishinabeg, and is now home to many
diverse First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.
The First Nations communities closest to us are the Six Nations
of the Grand River, the Chippewas of Georgina Island, the Mississaugas of Scugog Island, and the Chippewas of Rama.
We extend our gratitude to the Indigenous Peoples who continue to care for this land, and we’re honoured to be in community
with Indigenous peers — tonight and into the future.
