Good evening and welcome to A Moving Affair.
Your presence here means more than you know.
At Shelter Movers, we support families at one of the most pivotal
and often dangerous moments in their lives: when they’ve made
the decision to leave abuse behind and need help getting to safety.
For many, it’s not a lack of courage that stands in the way - it’s a
lack of options.
Since our founding nearly a decade ago, Shelter Movers has
completed over 9,600 moves for more than 15,000 survivors and
their children across Canada. By 2030, we aim to help at least
25,000 people take that same brave step forward.
It is easy to get caught up in the numbers that signify where we are
now and what we hope to achieve in the future. But what stays with
me, and the families we serve, are the small, human moments that
truly shape a brighter future: a child sleeping soundly through the
night in a safe room; a parent breathing easier for the first time in a
long time; volunteers rolling up their sleeves and quietly changing
the arc of a family’s life.
Hope for the future doesn’t arrive all at once — it is carried, piece
by piece, box by box, by a community that refuses to look away.
Tonight, we gather to invest in that future. Your generosity powers
safe moves, strengthens partnerships, and extends our reach to
families who are ready to begin again.
Thank you for standing with survivors, believing in their potential,
and choosing action over indifference.
With gratitude,
Catie Primeau
